Deploy the endpoint agent
Arcjet Discovery finds shadow AI with an endpoint agent that runs on your organization’s managed macOS and Windows devices. You deploy the agent with the device management (MDM) tool that you already use. Each device then reports connections to AI services to your Arcjet project.
The agent runs in the background as a system service, so it keeps reporting without anyone opening an app. For more information about what it reports, see What Discovery collects.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”Make sure that you have the following:
- Administrator access to your Arcjet team.
- Devices enrolled in your MDM tool, and permission to deploy software to them.
Tell the people whose devices you deploy to that the agent records which AI services and apps they use.
Deploy the agent
Section titled “Deploy the agent”To deploy the agent to your devices, do the following:
- In the Arcjet Console, open your project and select the Discovery tab.
- Open the deployment steps, and then create an enrollment token. The token connects devices to your project. Copy the token when it appears, because the Console shows it only once.
- Download the agent from the Console.
- In your MDM tool, deploy the agent and the enrollment token to your devices by following the steps in the Console. Start with a small group of devices.
- In the Discovery tab, open Devices and confirm that each device is reporting.
Treat the enrollment token like a password. Deliver it to devices only through your MDM tool.
The agent needs system-level permissions to observe network connections. When your MDM tool installs the agent, it grants those permissions, so people don’t need to approve anything on their device.
Confirm that devices are reporting
Section titled “Confirm that devices are reporting”The Devices view lists each enrolled device and shows whether it’s reporting. A device’s first AI activity appears after someone on it uses an AI app or opens an AI service in a browser. Activity then appears in the People, Devices, and Providers views.
After the first devices report, deploy the agent to the rest of your fleet.
Update or remove the agent
Section titled “Update or remove the agent”To update the agent, deploy the new version with your MDM tool.
To stop a device from reporting, revoke its access from Devices in the Console. A revoked device needs a new enrollment token before it can report again. To uninstall the agent, remove it with your MDM tool.
